my dell won't start with usb hub plugged in?

I have a dell inspiron 1100. I recently got a maxtor external hard-drive and a powered USB hub for a mouse, webcam and card reader. Problem is the thing won't start with the hub connected. It doesn't mind the maxtor but refuses to boot up with the hub. Any ideas?

I had this problem with my previous powersupply and I never could figure out the issue, I ended up changing hubs and solving the problem. I recently got a new powersupply and everything was working fine until yesterday, the computer all of a sudden wouldn't boot when the hub was plugged in, it has to be a driver issue.

Could possibly be a power issue.
If your power supply isn't powerful enough this could cause a problem. You may need a bigger power supply (higher wattage). I had a 350W power supply in my PC and when I connected too many USB devices it just killed it. Had to upgrade to a 500W.
