Hotpoint Mistral Plus Frost Free Fridge Freezer?

Initially the freezer reaches -22 and the fridge about +4, then after a day or two the fridge stops working, freezer continues to work! If I turn it off for a few days and then put it back on, again it works for a while and then the fridge stops working. Is it the thermister or faulty electonics? Any ideas? Thanks

Hi my hotpoint mistral plus fridge went the same time the fuse box went out. The computers gone completely, before this I had not one problem with it, it is over ten years old but looks and worked fantastic before this happened. The engineer not hot point stated that power was coming from the socket to the area where the computer was but he said because the computer packed up therefore the fridge did as the computer works the fridge. How to fix, is it worth fixing or buying a new one. What will the engineer roughly charge me too. Thank you for all replys, this happened on new years day. I blame the fuse box even though its meant to be a safety feature. Our fuse box does this every month.

Just a thought that might be helpful, I get problems if I forget to clear the dust from the heat exchanger in the bottom rh side of the freezer. Usually both the fridge and the freezer just stop working, but when the dust is cleared by use of a bottle brush and a powerful vacuum cleaner, the compressor starts up and the machine is back on line.
Could part of the problem outlined above be affected by a partial restriction of the air flow over the heat exchanger?

That should have read :SO REMEMBER TO ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE MAINS PLUG BEFORE COMMENCING WORK.

The fan cost £70 online, but I found an ebay seller that sold a fan identical (only with a longer shaft). Cut down the shaft an installed. Good luck.

I have looked into this exact same fault on my unit. The problem I had is my Frost Free fan (situated in the freezer) only intermittently started when it is given 240V. I had to replace the fan motor. I proved it was the fan by removing it quickly and testing on bench when it was still cold. It only started every third time. If you have this problem, you will find the following: 1) The unit will initially work find from warm and the fridge will get cold (after the freezer has reached it's operating temp. 2) After a period you will find the fridge stops getting cold (as the fan has stopped working, and therefore will not pump cold air up to the fridge from the freezer). Note that the motor will also not operate if the fridge door is open (a design feature to stop the cold air being blown out and wasting coldness). This means that if the fridge's door/light switch is faulty your fan will also not work. Changing the fan is a little bit fiddly, but should be within the scope of the intermediate to advanced DYI person. The fan is driven via a microprocessor, via a TRIAC, so it can supply power to the fan when you don't expect it to. SO REMEMBER TO ALWAYS RECONNECT THE MAINS PLUG BEFORE COMMENCING WORK.

the temperature on the fridge has to rise 19+ and won't drop, an the freezer has rise to -4. Now have it on fast freeze and the temperature will no drop what could br the cause of this

Both correct but the problem due to hot weather should only become apparent if the ambient temp' rises to above 30C.
I shouldn't say this but this is a serious system fault on these fridges and they should be changed. There is NO repair possible!

We've got the same problem. The hotpoint engineer said that these units can't handle the high temperatures we're seeing at the moment. What happens is that the heat exchanger at the back of the freezer (behind a removable plastic panel) gets iced up and prevents air reaching the fridge. Defrosting the heat exchanger (he used a hair-dryer) fixed it for a while but the problem just came back.

From what I understand of them the fridge is supplied from a cold airstream via a duct at the back of the unit. I don't have the same model as yourself but the vent on mine is on the top right at the back. I've seen posts on this forum saying that this duct can become iced (despite the forst free aspect) and stops the cold air reaching the fridge. If your freezer is displaying and error code you can look these up on the hotpoint website.
