Hi,
I have had several diesel's, volkswagen, vauxhall, latest citroen. They have all done this after replacing the fuel filter. There is air in the fuel system, the air needs to be 'bled' out of the fuel system. The above car's I have had are 'self bleeding', just keep churning the engine over on the starter. Takes 'some' time for it to fire, and maybe several times to fire continually.Needs a good battery/charge.
