how to change belt on eureka altima?

lost my manual need to change the belt on eureka altima vacuum
Val, September 2008
Once you have removed the housing and the roller, turn the vaccum so that you are facing the pin the turns. Pull the belt to the back of the unit with your right hand so that the belt is against the pin on the front side and with your left foot apply pressure to the carriage where the roller sits. This action causes the plastic housing next to the pin to move toward the front of the vacuum providing enough space to slide the belt off easily. Be careful that you do not apply too much pressure with the foot.

I finally found the user manual for Eureka Ultima 2996 at http://www.cpovacuumcleaners.com/products/2996a-r.html Click on "manual" and there it is. Unbelievable.

EUREKA!!!! Finally found those screws, located on the top of the brush roller,it is a little tricky removing the belt but it did take less than 5 mins.

Thanks for this! It was easy to find the two screws on top once I knew what to look for (I kept looking on the bottom too). All told it took me about 5 minutes to have the vacuum up and running again-longer than it took me to figure out which belt to buy! (eureka U belt)

Locate the two screws on top of the vacuum brush housing. remove these two screws and remove the housing cover. Note that the belt is EXTREMELY difficult to remove, so BE PATIENT! First, make sure the vacuum clean is NOT plugged in! Remove the roller brush BEFORE attempting to remove the belt. Next, Remove the belt by wiggle the belt between the narrow gap near the metal pin that the belt is wrapped around. Replace new belt on pin first, then wrap belt around roller brush in belt groove and replace roller. re-attach roller carefully.
Replace and secure housing cover.

I also have the same issue compounded by the fact that I cannot locate any screws anywhere on the bottom of the vac!!!! I have looked and looked, pulled on the housing in the hope that I would notice where it might be screwed in, and was near to breaking it since I have been unable to use the darn thing since I bought it a year ago......Yup..I know...I am a procrastinator what can I say....please help me I am tired of using the old vac which i would like to mention weighs 50 pounds if it weighs an ounce.

You can go here to download a new copy of your owner's manual: http://www.eureka.com/customer_service/owners_guide.jsp or you can just remove the two screws on the top of the roller brush cover housing and lift it off to access the roller brush/belt area.
