How can I fix my toshiba lap top lid?

My lap top lid is very loose and won't stay open, I guess the hinges are broken or worn out. CompUSA repair person said that he would have to take the whole computer appart to replace the hinges.

You do have to take them apart to fix the hinges normally, you have to get the keyboard off and possibly more depending on what type it is.
Laptops are a bit fiddly.
If you fancy doing it yourself look on ebay for a broken exact similiar model with good hinges or even replace the whole lid and screen which would be much easier.
Youll probably be able to get one cheap.
Go to the homepage of your laptop and look at the manual and print it preferably and refer to it
