What DVD format can my Panasonic DVD recorder use?

I have a Panasonic DVD recorder (multi-region), and I was told that it played all DVDs and recorded onto the - (minus) format of DVDs (e.g. DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM).
I can play any DVD, but I only seem to be able to record on DVD-RAM which is unfortunate since they're on average 3 times as expensive as RWs. Both -RWs and -Rs just do not read in the machine. Is this correct? Or is my machine faulty?

All of the recent Panasonics work with DVD-R and DVD-RAM. One of the problems you may be having is that DVD recording dyes aren't all the same and the recorder may be reacting badly to the discs you have got. I have got an E55 and have used discs with RitekG04 dye with great success. You will find them on the site of ebuyer.com for around £10 per 25 with some really good storage cases that hold 2 discs each for just over £10 for 100
