Conia air conditioner won't heat?

We have a Conia split system air conditioner. Scrolling through the modes on the remote won't go to "heat" but only to "feel". This supposedly gauges the temperature and, if cold, puts it on to the heat cycle, the only way we can get the heat to work. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it just blows cold air. Any ideas? We would like to be able to select the "heat" cycle.

The first answer actually works.

Take out the batteries and put them back in.
The remote screen will toggle between cool and heat.
When it changes to heat, press the on button.
You should now be able to change the mode to heat.

^^ unhelpful answer. replacing batteries and magic-tricking it by pressing the 'menu button when it flashes to heat' doesn't work. the back of the remote is no help either.

when you replace the batteries in the remote control, it will reset and flash between cooling only mode or cold/heat mode. press the menu button when it flashes to heat and then you'll be able to use all modes.

for further reference, check the embossed text on the back of the remote.
