How can I fix my Sony JA20ES Minidisc?

The Minidisc player flashes on and off, making a clicking sound. I cannot switch the machine off. I can open the drawer which will close on its own almost immediately. The machine switches off and flashes on and off randomly and will not perform any functions.

The machine has not been used very much in its life and the flashing started spontaneously after not having been used for at least three weeks.

Hi Carol,
Not claiming to be the absolute expert, but it sounds like a IC logic problem to me. Either the player got stuck in a "command loop" for whatever reason, or the board/chip logic controller is defective. Maybe you should try to:
a) Leave the player on "as is" overnight
b) Press several commands (play/rewind, etc.) at once and keep holding for a few seconds.
c) Hold a few command buttons while plugging the player in

One of these actions may revert the logic control to it's normal operation.

Regards,
S.
