Karen your problem is being caused by the thermal sensor beneath the processor. This item regularly fails on these computers and involves a new better quality motherboard which i supply at my website. Please ring me at 07926 1 0 6 1 5 0
You will see help pages relating to these computers on there

start up the pc in safe mode by pressing f8 then select last known good configuration, if it does not work, then it sounds like your hard drive has packed in.
hope it helps

Look for a little green LED on the motherboard indicating Power=OK - sometimes the PSU fails soon after switching on and the machine shuts itself off accordingly. Then the PSU cools down and suddenly power is good again for a little while - and so it continues.

A replacement PSU may cost £40 and take 20 minutes to install
