does the optical out or coax optical cable turn on when plugged in or do i have to turn it on manualy through the settings?

Most dvd players have the optical digital turned on by default, some you might have to enable through the menu system. As for electrical digital (coaxial out) this is always enabled. I yet havent found a player or recorder with a option to turn this off
