Error 6 on Minivator stair lift?

Hi my husbands Minivator has suddenly stopped going down! It will travel up but when you try to go down it shows error 6 which I believe is the safety on the foot plate. I have jiggled the footplate safety and the one under the main unit but still nothing. Any help gratefully received.

the 6 code is the under pan of the foot plate.
it is known problem with the minivator models and the connection has more than likely come away from the switch.
it is only a 5 min job to remove the plate, solder the switch, extend cable and then re-apply the footplate.
dont let anyone charge you any more than around £100 - £120 for the callout and repaair as this is what we would charge.
if you dont want to pay this you can allways bypass the switch but its not really safe...

Hello Michelle,

Safety edges are designed to only move away from an obstruction, if the downward safety has activated that would be why the lift is moving upward only. As the manufacturer we recommend that you get a qualifed stairlift engineer out to attend to the lift if tapping the edges and underpan of teh footplate does not recifty the problem.

It is vital that wiring for safety features, for example, is correct which is why you need an engineer who is familar with the product.

Many mobility dealers offer a call out service and if you contact Handicare (previously Minivator) we will be able to provide you with details of dealers in your area. Alternatively we do also offer a chargeable call out service. The Handicare office can be contacted on 01384 408700.
