How can I fix my Hotpoint Aquarius 1200?

The machine works and the drum revolves at normal speed but will not go to spin speed when required. When on a spin cycle the drum still turns at normal washing speed.

I'm answering my own question I know, but having browsed the site I found several simalar queries, the solution seemed to be new brushes and indeed it was. 1 hour of my time and £7.50 for the brushes and the machine is like new.
