leak in pasenger footwell under vynil, ford escort van 2001?

i have a leak passenger side footwell when it rains, the water seems to be going under the fitted vynil carpet, i have taken the plastic kick panel off and there is water dripping in from there, could you please tell me where it might be coming from as this has become a mission now. ford escort van 2001.

SAME PROBLEM!!! ford escort van 1997. i have traced it to next to the battery just in front of the fan intake. the water collects there, and has rusted a big 5cm diameter hole, above the passenger footwell. corrosoin was probably aided by fan sucking air over the water. i intend to weld a plate over the whole area, as i don't want the battery falling through!!

HAD A SIMULAR PROBLEM WITH MY N REG ESCORT 55 VAN,
FOUND IT WAS THE WINSCREEN RUBBER LEAKING IN,
WATER RUNS DOWN BEHIND DASHBOARD INTO FOOTWELL,
THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROB ON THIS MODEL,

Not too sure if this would help, but I had a similar problem with my old 1989 Bronco II before I traded it in. I thought the floor board or something was rusted and got punctured by debris. BUT, when I looked all around, what it was, was a cracked fire wall. Whenever it rained, the water would run down inside the engine compartment (due to the manufactured air holes for the engine cooling process) and followed a path to the front fire wall. Overtime, found a crack and constantly got the floor soaking wet. But that was an old car, and I was dealing with that problem in 2000. Since yours is a newer model, not too sure if that would be it or not.
