How can I remedy the EPS light burning?

I have a Type DA32V Suzuki Carry Van and the EPS light comes on occasionally. When the light burns the steering becomes stiff. How can I remedy this problem.A Diagnostic test was done and all the codes were cancelled. The vehicle was tested and was Ok at that test run.The vehicle was at a standstill for 2 days and I rechecked the van and when I turned on the ignition the EPS light went out on starting and then started to burn again steady. There is a small silver computer box under the steering column. Can this be Faulty?

The EPS on the light stands for Electric Powered Steering and this is powered by electrical power and not by a pump driven by the alternator belt however it does take it electric power from the alternator turning when the engine is started and also from the engine ecu. The silver box is all part of the EPS control box. You need to have it looked at by an auto electrician it may be a loss of power supply to the EPS or a fault inside the EPS unit its self the fault codes will point them in the right direction.

If steering goes stiff, I would look at the belt and pulleys. If a pulley is faulty, could slow or drag the belt, and give bad power steering. When My belt snapped in that area, really took some doing to pull the wheel around. If on same belt as Alternator, Some alternator pulleys are know to fail. Took a couple of months for mine to fail completely, Just an error at times, before, as you get, then total gave up.So get it seen to, either yourself or garage, save you being stranded
