1988ducato motor home?

M fiat 2.5 non turbo crankshaft casing seems to be leaking. I have been told that there are different gaskets on these vehicles, I was even told that it is not a gasket but sealent help!. Could I use a gasket repair oil additive as my usual garage told me it cost up to £600 to repair. I am coming to the point of having to think about the future of the motorhome as I have spent nearly £4,000 on her this year. Thankyou, barry

Thanks for your reply to help in identifying the leek it is at right front. I'm told that there is a steel band that goes round the engine and that is what attaches the crank housing to the engine .he tells me that the engine will have to come out to do the job .

Thanks for your reply, he says that the engine will have to come out as not easily accessible . The leak is on the right hand front. I,m told that it has a steel band ,for want of a better word and that this goes all the round the engine . From that the crank is lifted an bolted to the engine. Hope this gives you a better idea what is what. Again I am only repeating what has bee told to me. Regards barry

This is unclear as to where exactly this leak "is"!
Though I can't think of anywhere it could leak that would cost £600!
even if it was say the rear crankshaft oil seal that's around 4 hours lab'.
So your garage is hitting £150 an hour!
Where do you live?
central London?
Shop around for another garage that will explain where the leak is and give a more reasonable quote.
