how do I mend my ebac dehumidifier ?

My ebac dhw 700 dehumidifier working but emptys on to the carpet help please

My ebac humidex7 has developed a fault,I'm not sure if it's the thermostat. The machine kicks in but then after a couple of minutes it starts to smell then cuts out. I know it's old but it worked far better than the new one I've bought
