How can I move old HDD from Liteon LVW-5045 to new machine?

I have an old Lite-on LVW-5045 DVD recorder that was having problems with recorder drives that I had the machine open with to do repairs on it and the motherboard got bumped and I think shorted out the machine which is not powering up any more. I would like to put the HDD from this machine in an equivalent replacement DVD Recorder machine to hopefully regain access to all of the old recordings on that drive with I'd like to believe are still on there. Is this possible and is there documentation or some service outfit somewhere with answers on how this could be done? Is it simply just physically remounting the HDD drive equivalently in a functional replacement machine, or are there other steps involved to ensure that old recorded data won't be messed up by a reformat or the like by doing this? I've seen other stories on Youtube where people have taken data off on these HDD drives that were removed and remounted on to a PC, which I might do as a backup, but I'd prefer to have a replacement machine working with the recordings as they were before on an older machine, and not spend a lot of time doing that manual PC backup step that probably won't help me have recordings usable in the fashion I'd like them to be. Putting the old HDD on a replacement machine would hopefully also eliminate the problem (at least for now) of the faulty DVD recorder drive that I've replaced a number of times on the older machine.
