My 1999 Peugeot 206 has started clicking from the front end on deceleration?

I noticed the other morning when I was driving along that my Peugeot 206 1.4 lx (1999) has developed a clicking noise from the front end when I decelerate in gear. Has anyone else had a similar problem? How do I fix it?

Hi .. You didnt say how many miles your car has covered.
.The problem might be the crown wheel in the diff ..When the bearings start to waer out the diff becomes loose and then you can here what sounds like a low rumble when you decelerate in gear.
.My has done 153,000 miles and been doing since it turned over 125,000. there is nothing to worry about as long as you keep a check on the oil in the gearbox.
.You could change it to a slightly thicker oil to make it less noticable or have the bearing changed which is not cheap when you add up the labour cost..

It could be the cam belt tensioner. I had the same thing on my GTI and apparently its a common fault for the bearings to go. cost me about £200 to replace (full cambelt kit, labour and VAT). The noise from my car was constant though, not just on deceleration. You could hear it better though when the car was idling or decelerating.
