cdrom stutters?

Hi
The DVD/CD on my 18 month old Compaq pc is not working properly. The DVD bit is fine and I can play games and watch films but when I try to play music cds it stutters, runs slow and ticks. I have checked all the systems on my pc and everything is fine. The PC Doctor has no category that I can find on mechanical problems.
Manufacturer: (Standard CD-ROM drives)

it sounds like your DMA is not enable

This can only be accessed via the controller, and not the device.

right click on your computer icon
go down to properties
then click on the hardware tab
then click on the hardware manager button
Look under IDE/ATAPI controllers, then double-click Primary and also Secondary (In the Advanced Settings tab).
and enable the DMA option
this should solve your problem
