I recently had a problem with water getting into the drivers side footwell in which the cables that run alongside the side of the foot well which caused the horn to continuously to sound off and had the RAC out to it of which they said it caused a short circuit.

The horn as I've discovered now doesn't work and have no answer to the problem as to why? Mines a Renault Laguna 3.0 initiale and I have checked the fuse which seems fine. I will try some of the suggestions posted here of course and if all else fails! The the RAC might be busy again as the Horn is an MOT failure :)

Get ready to work in a very confined space for about 30 minutes.

Jack up the front left wheel and secure with an axel stand to be safe.

Remove the inspection cover on the passenger side in front of the wheel.

You should see the horns with a white multiplug connected.

Pop off the metal clip with a flat screw driver and pull out the multiplug.

Using a voltmeter place the live into a part of the plug where the black wire leads and the earth where the brown wire leads.

Have someone depress the horn and monitor the meter. A reading of just under 12volts should be seen, if not there is a wiring problem in the circuit before the current gets to the horn.

I found a voltage at this point, so I knew that there was a problem with the horns.

I inspected the terminals where the plugs connected to on the horns and found that they had a layer of blue oxidization, which is common.

I scraped this off with a screwdriver, reconnected the multiplug and heard the sweet music of the horn bursting to life.

Apparently this is a common problem with the electrics on Renaults.

If this still doesnt solve the problem then there could be a problem where one horn joins the other as there are two connected in series.

If this isn't the problem then the claxton could be the problem and aftermarket ones can be sourced for about £15 on ebay, and only one bolt secures them onto the chassis, however due to lack of space you may require to remove the front bumper, or at least drop the passenger side.

I hope this works for someone. Good Luck

The horn is located behind the nearside front bumper. I had a same problem where my hooter wasn't working. The hooter on Lanuna II is not like ordinary hooters. Its an entire electrical unit thats really difficult to get too. I did take it to an auto electrician who rulled out Steering and fuse. He refered me to Renault dealer, who quoted me £190 to investigate the problem. They horn itself is an additional £265 (as May 2009) if it turned out to be the horn. I did not want to spend that so I just bought an ordinary car horn from older models and connect to battery and ran a cable to a small switch I got from a hardware store.

Guys where is the horn located? I couldn't find the horn?

Mine stopped working - fuses were fine. I opened the bonnent and slammed it shut - the horn started working again.

I've heard that the bellows seize. Take a hammer to it (gently).

Have you tested the horn itself to see if that is working. Use a fly lead from the positive terminal of the battery to the positive terminal of the horn, this way you bypass the switch. If it doesn't work the horn is at fault. Alternate method is to test for a 12 volt supply at the horn when the horn switch is pressed.
