Renault Scenic (99 - 1.6) wipers have a mind of their own?

No matter what wiper setting is being used (intermittent, slow or fast), the wipers start and stop at random intervals; usually leaving the wiper blades parked in the middle of the windscreen. Turning the wipers off and then on again gets them working normally for a moment. Some days they work without any problem at all. Are they possessed? :-)

my laguna 3 wipers stopped working in heavy rain on motorway. took to dealer they cant find anything wrong. got to wait for laguna expert in on monday. see what happens.

You are all wrong Ive just found the answer so listen carefully! This fault lies at the rear of the wiper motor it involves removing the wiper motor. Carefully lever off the plastic wheel box cover clips at rear of wiper motor
and you will see three copper sprung contacts these copper strips need to bent slightly to improve their contact with the park contacts on the wheel.
Reassemble and Bobs your uncle.

you may find that the wiper switch has broken contacts.try replacing switch
