best thing to do is find the live wire and join it to the fan wire and place a 12v dimmer switch between the to

It is the big alloy heatsink thing built into the blower motor casing. And there is no repair that I know of that can be made to it because it's electronics are encased in resin.

I have the same problem with mine. The main fuse box in engine compartment has a 40amp fuse that is ok, behind the glove box there is another fuse box and I have found 2 fuses blown, one is a 16amp fuse on position 16 of the fuse box, when I replace it it just blows again. I am currently trying to find a wiring diagram to show what it feeds.
I made up a seperate harness and wired the fan direct to the battery, the connections are +/red battery to red lead on fan -/black battery to the green earth lead on the fan there is also a thinner green wire which when I connect to the +/red battery the fan goes from half speed to full speed suggesting the reostat is a aluminium fitting just below the fan (you have to remove fan to see the alluminium fitting)

Anyone got a manual showing what the fuse on position 16 of the glove box fuse is doing. The other fuse that has blown is a 5amp on position 9
