I have replaced the belt on my dyson dc01 but the belt wanders off the spindle after a few mins any ideas all seems ok with the Hoover

My Dyson DC01 has suddenly stopped working. I have taken it to pieces and there is no obvious blockage - no smell of burning. Any suggestions as to next course of action?
