Hotpoint mistral frost free problem ?

I have a hotpoint mistral frost free, both compartments will not go to the desired temperature, the fridge wont get colder than about 8+-10+ degrees and the freezer wont get any colder than - 12.
The problem seems to be in both compartments.
Please can you advise.

Fantastic! A simple, cost free solution to our Hotpoint Mistral Fridge/Freezer problem...

12 year old appliance, worked fine until recently. Freezer unable to hold temperature. Read here about removing grill at the bottom of the unit on the front, which we have never done! Removed and cleaned 12 years of dust/dirt blocking the condenser and air intake and... SUCCESS! Freezer now breathing again!!!

Many thanks. Have saved a hefty call out fee & was even considering a new appliance! Happy days!

how do you change the tempature on the fridge, when i try to change the tempature to come down, it jumps back up too +18

adam, April 2011
My Hotpoint Mistral (with digital display) keeps freezer at between -18 and -22. The fridge is fine at +5. I have set the fridge to work at this temp via the digital display but cannot change the freezer compartment settings! The condensor is also too hot to touch and the cooling matrix is free of fluff.
What might be the problem?

Problem I had was freezer -22 degrees, fridge +13 degrees.
Defrosted fridge for 24 hours.
Cooling element blocked by dust & fluff, used air gun to clear all dust.
Cleaned yellow themistor contacts located in freezer compartment.
Reassembled.
All working back to normal.
Thank you all for ur help :-)

My hotpoint mistral was periodically showing the red high temp light and fridge and freezer not as cold as should be. I did as suggested by Terry and removed the lower grill, only to find a huge mat of fluff that had been sucked in and wrapped around the heat exchanger element completely blocking it. I removed this and hoovered out the element and wow what a difference! The red light went out within five minutes and the whole thing is getting much colder (fridge and freezer). Good call Terry, this is a 5 minute job and could save you the cost of an engineer call out and a freezer full of food. I am a very happy chap, as I was on the verge of getting a new fridge freezer! *****TRY THIS IT WORKS!!!!!******

There is a pot at the rear of the unit in the black plastic box you can adjust the defrost time. Try increasing the defrost time if the cooling coils inside the freezer have ice build up.

I had a similiar problem however after cleaning the condensing coils the freezer would go to -22 but the fridge stayed at +16 because the fan wouldn't run, If I opened the fridge section door and closed it again the fan would run for maybe 30 seconds and then cut out, I removed the back off the inside of the freezer and removed the plate infront of the coils and removed the two thermostats clipped onto the coils and left them hanging beside the coils but not touching the coils. this has caused the fan to run everytime the compressor runs and has the fridge working again, however there is heating coils intermingled with the evaporator coils as part of the defrost system and frankly I don't know what effect removing the thermostats will have on this, I'll have to investigate further at least for the short term my food has stopped goig off. I'll try to source new thermostats and replace them and see if that helps

Problem solved.
Turned off and unplugged fridge freezer.!!!!
Took grill off at bottom of freezer at front, ( two screws are visible when freezer door is open)
The cooling element was blocked with dust a pluff, I cleaned with duster and hoover, ( use duster to make sure all the element is free from dust) This element is cooled by a fan at the back of element, because air way was blocked it wasnt able to expel the hot air.
A simple solution to a frost free fridge freezer that wasnt getting cold enough.
May not be your problem but worth a look.
(ALWAYS UNPLUG FRIDGE !!!!)
