caravan paint?

Our Compass caravan's paintwork is showing signs of age and it is a bit big to spray. So has anyone any experience of hand painting a caravan, specifically paint suppliers and colour matching. Thanks

Prep surface by cleaning, light sanding, masking off and a good quality exrterior paint applied with a roller should do the job. Spend time and effort on the prep to save tears later!

I am currently trying to respray the A-frame cover on my caravan. But trying to remove the acrylic surface is quite a challenge, so do you have any tips on how to prepare the surface before spraying? & also can you spray over acrylic?

If you are doing it yourself, use a good quality exterior paint, such as garage door paint and use a 4" roller, not a brush.

Steps:

1. Wipe down with sugar soap or similar cleaner.
2. Rinse with water
3. Mask off windows
4. Apply paint with roller
5. You will need at least two coats to properly cover the old work

Bare aluminium needs etch primer ,this is usually a 2 pack paint , you don,t want to mess with this stuff yourself. If you are serious about painting a caravan then go to a commercial paint spraying outfit with the right facilities . look for a lorry painter or coach painting firm . as for paint its usually an industrial and cheap polyurethane product £30 a gallon . Take it from a paint sprayer with over 20 yrs behind him . the most expensive part of this is labour . as for polish and mopping a caravan £100 ! wish i.d have thought of that ffs!!

I want to know the steps to spray painting my caravan. We live in the van.its a 22ft exterior is aliminium and needs repainting .does it need some form of primer coat before top coats, what makes the paint stick well ? ?, Should I use automobile paint ? Thanks for any help you can give

I was called in by a caravan site to paint a static home but after looking at it I told them it would not need paint to look good. I went on to cut back the top lawer of paint with my automotive mop, this removed lots of marks in the paint and gave it the shine of a brand new van on a van which is ten years old I charged 100 pounds. A respray would cost around 150 for the paint alone and this would cost a lot more preperation time and would need flating and polishing to look as good as I did 100 pound. IF YOU PAINT IT YOUR SELF AND DO NOT PREP IT WELL OR MAKE A MESS IT WILL COST AND COST TO SORT IT, IF YOU CAN GET ANY ONE TO FIX IT. Please call me on 07867612065 if you wish to hire my service.

about how much would it cost to have a 17 foot caravan spray painted

Mrs Beryl Bennett, September 2008
We hand painted our van with garage door paint. made it look 10 years younger. We wire brushed it and then washed it. wiped it with white spirit washed it again. then when dry masked off windows and fittings and painted it. Have pictures if you want to see.

better of getting it sprayed properly it could cost afrom £100
upto £400 but you get a better finnish usreing a sprayer .after all if you spend a few quid keying and prepareing it then painting it buy hand and it dont work out then you have wasted your time and money
