Why is there mold in there?

I have what looks like mold/mildew 'chunks' in my Kenmore 80 series washer. Why and how do I get rid of this? Is there a recall?

Im assuming this is a front load washer.
If so... there are a few causes of this.
The main cause is water that become trapped in the door boot/gasket. This is actually a common problem with some models as the manufacture did not include a drain for the gasket. Some models have a drain kit to correct this problem, but you will need to call Sears HomeCentral with your model#
and they should be able to tell you if your model has a kit or not.
In the meantime you can wash the door gasket with a warm water/vinegar solution and leave the door slightly ajar after washing your clothes to allow the water to evaporate.
If the mildew in other areas you can add vinegar to the bleach and detergent dispensers and run a warm wash/rince with no clothes in it.
This should be done once a month.

Hope this helps.
