There is an easier solution to this..........
remove the top and back plates.

Place the new belt onto the motor pulley then onto the drum, it will not fit straight on so what you have to do is this, push on as far as you can, then start slowly rotating the drum holding the belt in place, do this until the whole of the belt is around the drum.

Just like you used to do when you were a kid when changing your inner tube on your bike.

Doing it this way mean you don't have to remove any working parts.
Hope this helps.

HEllo i just changed mine today although mine is an older HOTPOINT machine...there are 2 pulleys..you undo 2 small (8-10mm) screws that hold a coupling on..its rubber and sorta looks like a sliced onion..then you can remove the belt..both pulleys r tight, so on mine, i had to undo 3 bolts that hold the MOTOR ..you loosen these UNDERNEATH the motor..don't undo them all the way..just enough to slide the motor back and forth..this will loosen and tighten the belt like on a car alternator..USE a CROWBAR..HOLD the crowbar and retighten the 3 screws (or how many you have) that hold the motor...you should only be able to push a little over half an inch play..the belt should be fairly tight and ready to go..GOOD LUCK..my machine works fine now..we were ready to get rid of it and the belt only cost $8.00...its a bit of a tough job, but go for it..Gail
