How can I keep the belt from coming off?

I just replaced the belt that runs the blade on my Snapper riding mower. The belt keeps vibrating off the pulley, and the blade stops. How can I fix this? Can I increase the belt tension so the belt does not slip off? If so, how?
Thanks.

I also have a similar Snapper, SR1333, 33" with a 13 HP motor. The brake/clutch cables show up behind the battery compartment. What is the fix for making the belt last more than an hour or two?

Let me see if I can help you out. I need to get a little more information from you. Does your particular model have that steel tube that houses the clutch and brake pedal cables that run to the back of the mover? It's about 3 inches in diameter and directly above the mover deck. If so, let me know and I can continue here.
