Diagnosis ideas?

I have a Rover25 2002 Model 1.4. It seems to have developed an intermittant problem. It will drive fine and then suddenly start jerking terribly and you cannot drive more than 10 kms an hour if lucky and when this happens it guzzles fuel and then it returns to normal. The temp gauge also drops off the planet. Any ideas would be helpful
Thanks

Hi Susan, you will need to get the car connected up to a diagnostic computer to find the fault, main dealers will charge £150+ you should find in your local paper many tyre & exhaust and small garages offering diagnostic testing for around £30+ vat if your near to milton keynes I have the kit required.
