No sound through my speakers from a microphone?

Im running windows vista home premium, AMD Athlon x2 Dual Core 4800+, NVIDIA GeForce 7050 PV/NVIDIA nForce 630a. I plug my microphone into the microphone jack and all software can record what i say in the mic but it wont play through the speakers at all. I've tried sound options, enabling everything but there isnt even a microphone volume bar. help!!!!

You could try the advanced options. If you see MIC here then enable it. There will now be a slider on your normal option menu.

If you can't hear yourself "in real time" then your sound card is a half duplex type, though that is very uncommon these days.
