sometimes it cuts out or revs high once out of gear but not all the time

check your injector's for a hissing noise, the o'rings around the injector, which seat the injector in the head tends to perish and looses you vacuum in your inlet manifold. if that isnt the fix, then look for hard plastic pipes connecting to your manifold, if they come loose this can casue a drop in vacuum preasure. low revs vacuum is more critical, so it tends to stall more at idle. it may also rev eratically. if positive that all vaccum hoses are secure and there are no leaks, then i would sugest you look at you coil pack or " Ignition cassette". again if this does not prove a fix then look at perhaps replacing either you throttle angle sensor or your air flow mass metre.

Might not be but check your vacuum hoses as this was causing my audi to choke and cut-out.
