ford transit front wheel drive 280 swb td. gear box cables?

my 2002 front wheel drive ford transit has had new gear box cables but 2nd and reverse gears jump out when selecting. 2nd gear grinds and reverse jumps out when clutch is released.

check the plate at the bottom of the gear stick is flat i had the same problem and managed to pull the locator plate flat and now get gears no problem
