I replaced the fuel line, ran long enough to cut a 5" log and stopped running. now it run's 5 sec's then die's. model #358357181,sears craftsman chainsaw 2 3/18" blade

I have the same model and had the same problem. I replaced the fuel line, but when it ran sort of like yours does I took it apart again and notice the fuel like was kinked between the handle and the carbertor compartment, as well as another kink inside the compartment. Once I fixed those kinks, it ran just fine!

Sounds like a Sears contract of Pouland chainsaws made of grey plastic (yellow if Poulan but exact parts). Well if you ever find out let me know. If you reverse the fuel lines in the carburetor from the primer bulb it will only run your 5 sec and cut off, because that's all the gas in the primer bulb. But it did run longer the first time. I did the same thing once. That's El cheapo plastic technology calls for a new primer bulb, The rubber primer check valve in the primer button is bad, that's why it will not pressure up when you pump it! Plan A.
