Chain Saw Will Not Start?

I have a McCulloch chain saw. If you spray starting fluid in the carb. it will fire. But it will not start and run.

Mike is correct when he said "old fuel" causes many problems with chainsaws.
Tip... if you don't use all the fuel you have mixed and placed in the saw's fuel tank; empty it out, start the saw until it completely runs out of fuel then you can safely stow the saw for next time but be sure to mix NEW fuel each time.

sounds to me like it's directly related to fuel quality or quanity. check the fuel hoses, pick up screen. fresh fuel mix.

I would try replacing the spark plug, then the HT lead. Clean the air filter. If that fails then I think its a case of getting it serviced properly.
Just thought, I take it that the fuel mix is correct and that it hasn't been sat in the tank for years. If it has that could contribute to the problem.
