loss of power?

i have a vw lt35 1999, recently it has lost a lot of power. i now have to climb slight hills in second. any ideas what the problem could be

I would try a new fuel and air filter, and if its got one .. the lamnda sensor

if its not"drive by wire" ( not familiar with vw ) check it is getting full throttle,with engine off get someone to fully depress acc pedal and check linkage is reaching its stop .
