How can I connect to sky BB with my Acer aspire 5100?

When I try to connect wirelessly to my Sky BB router I get a message saying " The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network"
It works fine when connected via cable and as Im not the most computer knowledgable person on earth I'm completely lost. Please help. Its an Acer Aspire 5100 with Windows Vista.

Thanks guys for your answers, but after trying to connect my daughters PSP wirelessly I realised that the fault may not be with my laptop as previously thought but with the router. So a phone call to Sky was made and they just sent out a new router. Problem solved. Thanks again and my apologies for being a complete idiot when it comes to computers.

This problem usually arises when the network security key type or characters don't not match those stored on your router.

If your router is a DG834GT use a web browser to access the router's configuration by typing 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. I believe the default user name/password are admin/sky (these should be changed to prohibit unauthorised access).

The interface is fairly intuitive and you or a knowledgeable friend should have no probs setting up network name (SSID) and security type and code.

It's easy then to make your network adapter's config match the router's.

I hope I don't seem patronising, but I know some can find it a bit daunting and I have no idea of your experience!

Unfortunately I am no Vista pro, personally cant stand it. But from the problem you have described it sounds like an authentication problem ie the WEP key. Confirm that the WEP key is the same in which you are inputting.

I also presume that you are using Vista to handle the Wireless Connection rather than a 3rd party program (they tend to conflict with each other unless one of them is disabled). Have a mooch about on the start bar and see if there is anything else that is trying to handle the wireless. Disable it if possible.

Finally and this would be the most trickiest part in Vistas search for "simplicity" is to try and check the TCP/IP settings on the wireless connection. It is possible that it is set on a different address than the Sky box wants to accept. If you can find this then try setting it to "Obtain an IP address Automatically".

Good luck
