I had exactly the same problem and called the Argos helpline who suggested I try a lens cleaner. However, one of the things they asked while I was on the phone was to, while the tv was on, press the on/off button to turn it off but keep my finger pressed on it for 30 seconds before letting go. Did that, the tv switched off, then when I switched it on again, it's back to playing discs as normal. Been working fine ever since.
