Laptop freezes, sometimes no bootup?

Hi, my Evesham Laptop has started freezing - mouse stops moving and no keys work, and only recovery is to power off. It all really started when my wireless network connection kept switching off. Now the laptop sits at the windows logon screen without actually booting into windows. I left the laptop off for a day and it booted up ok, but a few minutes later - froze. The fan seems to be running ok. Thanks

I am writing because I have a Latitude D610 that is doing the exact same thing. Did you ever figure out what the problem is and if so, how did u fix it?

Thanks for the reply, I will check this speedfan out. I tried removing one of the memory modules - one at a time, to see if it could be this, but it is not booting up at all regardless. I will leave it off for a while then it boots ok. I did a disk cleanup and defragment and it was ok.

Could be a number of problems causing this issue. Firstly the heatsink could be loose, or the thermal paste on the CPU has gone. Peering inside you would still be able to see the fan going, but nothing to actually keep the CPU cool, the freezing would be the user end result.

Alternatively it could be the HDD overheating or knackered.

My hunch is the CPU, if you can keep the system stable enough to install a program called SpeedFan (Google it) it will give you all the sensor readouts for ur machine (on the proviso it actually has your board supported.
