why won't my car move when in drive?

While driving my 1991 Buick Regal, I lose power even though I am stepping on the gas and am in drive. I have to stop,turn off the car, then start it again and put it back into drive. This seems to reset the drive mode.

had the same problem in my seibring. it was gas leakink on manifold. had it fixed worked great
