renault clio handbrake?

the handbrake on my 96 1.2 clio will not hold up on its own in the on position. It holds the car fine but the ratchet seems to have broken so I have to leave the car 'in gear' when I park it.

get it changed as soon as poss this is a danger and M O T failure cars CAN still ROLL when left in GEAR depends on the slope/gradiant
