on and off?

hi,a i,m running windows xp home edition sp2 and 9/10 times when i start it , it boots up ok but then just closes down and restarts booting again but when i manage to get it to stay on it say THIS SYSTEM HAS RECOVERED FROM SERIOUS ERROR ani1 got any ideas what could be causing t6his thanks

I had this problem in the past. I found by trial and error that it was a conflict between my graphics card, TV card and sound card. I know it 's a drag but may I suggest you unload drivers for any additional cards you have installed and remove them. Then reload your graphics card driver. Check it's working okay. Then add your peripheral cards back in one by one until you find what's causing the problem.
