when it does it takes me away from the page im on and i then have to click the screen again to get back to what i was doing.if im playing a game it switches it off. its an emachine E3021

Mine is doing that now also. As of 15 minutes ago. (I Googled the key words) Is not the ball because it also makes a "click" sound like navigating on IE when it jumps to the upper left corner. It stops after 3 minutes. I am going to run a virus scan. That must be the problem.

Just some ideas:
1. If it is an old rollerball style mouse, take out the ball and brush off any dust/hairs etc. from the ball itself.
2. If it is a wireless mouse, try changing the channel on the receiver and the mouse.
3. Try using a different USB port for the mouse
4. Just in case it is an odd virus, try running a virus scanner on your machine (AVG is a good, free one).
