I have a computor virus called Trojan.Adwaheck and it won't go away?

My Windows XP Home edition has a the Trojan.Adwaheck virus but whenever I try to get rid of it, it says the delete failed and I really don't know how to get rid of it. The computor hardly starts up now and then it will freeze up and not work anymore so I can't really do anything. Please Help!

The Norton instructions on the Symantec website are useless..I did both scans...regular and from Safe Mode with Restore disabled and it still was not able to fix, quarantine or delete the virus. Someone suggested that I try running Spyware Doctor..so I am going to give it a shot and see what happens.

This is from Sysmantec hope it helps...

The following instructions pertain to all current and recent Symantec antivirus products, including the Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus product lines.

Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
Update the virus definitions.
Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as Trojan.Adwaheck.
Delete the value that was added to the registry.
