How do I find out why 2nd computer wont connect to the internet correctly?

I was using a 2nd computer connected using USB with no problems. I wanted to utilise the ethernet connection and removed the USB Network Adapter, Motorolla, and ensured the ethernet card was enabled. The computer was shut down and connected using ethernet cable. The connection and ethernet card are recognised and to all intents and purposes should be functional until I try to go online. The page can't display, I have limited or no connectivity and I can't get anywhere with this.

I am with Virgin and have had no problems connecting other computers. I ran the connection diagnostic and it reports, DNS failure, gateway is unreachable, could not make HTTP, HTTPS or FTP connection.

I just checked the back of the computer and no led is lit for the ethernet connection. It's onboard an ASRock motherboard and this is the first time I have tried to use it.

Can the ethernet card be damaged and still behave as above.?

Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Try the Bios, see if your LAN (ethernet) is enabled

See if your ethernet card is working ok by clicking on..

Control Panel, System, Hardware then Device manager..

If there is a driver issue you should see a yellow triangulated exclamation mark on any device that isnt installed properly.

If no yellow triangles.. its fine.

Maybe a firewall issue?
