machine fills with water hotpoint wd61?

the machine fills with water even when it is off and over long period of time ie when on holiday the drum may be half fill

It sounds like the inlet valve is leaking - you need to identify if it's the hot or cold and then replace it.
Either that or switch off the water to the machine each time after use.
