Garmin Etrex battery leakage?

Hi All.

I decided to get my Garmin etrex out of the draw only to find that the batteries have leaked and the unit wont boot. I have tried new batteries but still no joy, can any one help.

It is likely that the fluid from your battery which is very corrosive has eroded the battery connections. First closely examine the actual battery connections in the unit, if they are eroded (rusted) then clean them back to a clean metal finish with a fine emery board (from your manicure set!!) If this has not solved the problem you will have to open the unit carefully and examine if the battery fluid has leaked into the actual electronics, if so closely examine with eye glass, any place where fluid was present and if connections are “eaten away”.
Repair any eroded connections if you can. (see any). You will require a miniature soldering iron and some solder (not in the manicure set).A steady hand and fingers crossed, try it again…!!
