engine change on vauxhall corsa 1.0ltr?

I have to change the engine in my daughter's w reg corsa 1.0ltr , If i buy a secondhand engine from a breakers yard do i also have to fit the ecu from the donor vehicle,or will the original ecu recognise the new engine electrics?
