How can I fix my CD-RW Drive thats not reading?

My CD-RW Drive is no longer working.

I put in a CD and it spins for a while and makes a whooshing sort of noise. It then stops and I check the My Computer area and click on the drive icon and it says theres no CD in the drive.

I think the lense could be damaged. Is there anyway I can fix it or will a new CD-RW Drive have to be bought?

A new CD drive is not too expensive and they are easy to install, so if it is driving you mad it may not be worth wasting too much time on trying to fix it.
