Intermittant power steering failure on my zafira?

When starting from cold in the mornings, espicially if wet the power steering doesn't work and the battery light comes on. After a short while its fine. Any ideas?

With the battery light coming on i'd say it's time to renew your auxiliary drive belt as they stretch and cause slipping .
