does anyone know where I can locate the serial number for a westwood T1600, i've been told i need this to get proper drive belt replacement

The serial number is usually on a stuck on aluminium foil plate, often under the seat or maybe in the engine compartment. It sounds like the belt supplier isn't being too co-operative here as T1600 should really be enough. Can you take the old belt with you? They can match it up from that.
